The Texas Tribune will host Blockchain and the Future Economy at 9 a.m. March 4.
The blockchain has created new currencies and its boosters promise it’ll change the internet. It has minted new industries and millionaires in Texas, and spurred all kinds of state and private investment. State leaders continue to promote the industry, but are also trying to address worries that things like cryptocurrency mining will overwhelm the state’s power grid.
Matthew Watkins, editor-in-chief of The Texas Tribune, will sit down with:
- Lee Bratcher, president of Texas Blockchain Council;
- Cesare Fracassi, associate professor of finance and director of the Blockchain Initiative at Texas McCombs School of Business at University of Texas at Austin; and
- Carol Haines, head of power and policy at Core Scientific.
They will help explain this technology, explore its impact on the state and evaluate whether Texas is responding to the opportunities and challenges it presents.
Doors open at 8:30 a.m. and the hour-long conversation begins at 9 a.m.
This event will be held at the Tribune’s Studio 919 in Austin.
This event will be livestreamed for virtual attendees and available on demand at texastribune.org/events.
This event is the second in the “Tech and the Texas Lege” series. At our first event, quantum computing experts explained how the technology can improve cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and pharmaceutical development.
